Membership Committee Member

The Membership Committee Member helps strengthen and grow the Buckeye Trail Association (BTA) by supporting membership recruitment, retention, engagement, and policy development. Committee members work together to ensure membership programs provide value to members while supporting the long-term sustainability of the organization.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Attend and actively participate in Membership Committee meetings
• Assist with keeping membership records up to date, review membership trends, and assist with developing strategies to recruit new members and retain existing members
• Support outreach campaigns, renewal efforts, and member recognition initiatives
• Help promote BTA membership opportunities at events, hikes, and other public engagements, and assist with projects related to member communications and engagement
• Work collaboratively with other committee members to provide recommendations to the Board of Trustees regarding:
  • Membership benefits and enhancements that provide value to members
  • Membership dues and membership category changes
  • Methods of enhancing membership growth and engagement
  • Feedback on membership policies, procedures, and member services

Outcome/Impact

The Membership Committee helps ensure a vibrant and engaged membership base that supports the Buckeye Trail Association's mission. Through recruitment, retention, and member engagement efforts, committee members contribute to the organization's financial stability, volunteer development, and long-term success.

Minimal physical risk; primarily administrative and planning activities

Term Length & Exit Clause Reminder

Committee membership is ongoing and continues at the discretion of the volunteer and BTA leadership. Members are encouraged to commit for at least one year to provide continuity for committee projects and should provide advance notice if they are unable to continue serving.

• Current member in good standing of the Buckeye Trail Association
• Interest in membership development, nonprofit organizations, and community engagement
• Ability to attend committee meetings and participate in committee activities

Desired Skills

• Experience in membership organizations, customer service, volunteer management, fundraising, or nonprofit operations
• Experience with marketing, outreach, or member communications
• Ability to analyze information and make recommendations
• Passion for hiking, trails, conservation, and the Buckeye Trail Association mission

Expectations

• Attend committee meetings regularly and participate actively in discussions
• Complete agreed-upon tasks and projects between meetings
• Communicate promptly regarding availability and committee responsibilities
• Represent the BTA positively and professionally
• Support the organization's mission, values, and membership goals
