This update applies to the November 2015 edition of the Troy Section map, to the 2025 edition of the Avenza app, and to the August 2025 edition of the FarOut app. The mileage change from Point 11 to 13 is hardly noticeable.
BTA volunteers worked with FiveRivers MetroParks staff to repair a years-long issue with the former towpath trail in Taylorsville MetroPark and just north of the BT’s Point 12, Tadmor Ghost Town, in the Troy Section. MetroParks cleared the towpath which allows the BT to return to the more scenic route. BTA volunteers have blazed the restored trail, and it is now open and available for hikers.
As a result of this change, Point 12 moves from the Great Miami River Recreation Trail (GMRRT) at Tadmor back to the towpath trail. This slight change does not cause any mileage difference in the trail. However, it does affect the descriptions of both Point 11 and Point 12. See the trail log below:
CW 25.3 N | CCW 27.1 S | Point 11 | GMRRT at Stairs to Trailhead (P, Pr, PS, PT)
Directly on the opposite side of the Great Miami River Recreation Trail (GMRRT) at Point 11 is a primitive campsite. This location is only about a two minute walk from all the facilities listed at Point 11. Reservations are required and can be secured from the Dayton Five Rivers MetroParks website
Continue on GMRRT as it passes through Taylorsville MetroPark South, travels under the US 40 overpass (0.24 mi), and passes a minimal trailhead (P, Pr). In 470’ GMRRT turns N on former RR grade. BT Leaves GMRRT and turns SE on trail. Descend low grade that is the heelpath of Miami‐Erie Canal. Cross dry canal prism to former towpath, turn N and ascend to towpath. Towpath trail gradually turns N. In 500’, the trail jogs around a pile of rubble that conceals remains of a former bridge over canal. BT generally parallels GMRRT for 1.1 mi to a gravel road used to access farm fields.
CW 27.3 N | CCW 25.1 S | Point 12 | Towpath Trail at Farmer’s Access Rd
The farmer’s gravel road leads NW to the GMRRT where the remains of the Village of Tadmor are located.
Cross the gravel road and continue N on the former towpath which generally parallels GMRTT to the W and the Miami R to the E. In 0.5 mi ascend NW on footpath and cross the canal prism to rejoin GMRTT. Follow the GMRTT another 0.9 mi and at Old Springfield Rd (C8), leave Taylorsville MetroPark.
CW 28.8 N | CCW 23.6 S | Point 13 | Trail Culvert Beneath Old Springfield Rd (C8)
