Website leadership transition: honoring Mary Hayes and welcoming Elyria Little

The Buckeye Trail Association (BTA) is preparing for an important transition in the stewardship of its website, a resource that has guided hikers, volunteers, and partners for more than two decades.

After many years serving as the primary caretaker of the BTA website, Mary Hayes will be shifting out of the Website Lead role. Elyria Little will step into this position, managing day-to-day administration and future development of the site. Elyria can now be reached at web-admin@buckeyetrail.org for all website-related inquiries, and any updates or errors can always be reported through the Website Feedback Form.

Mary will continue to maintain the Section Pages and trail alerts/updates as part of her Map Team responsibilities, and she will serve as a backup for Elyria when needed. Mary will also remain available to participate on the web team as questions arise that require deeper historical or technical context.

This transition represents an opportunity to reflect on the extraordinary volunteer service behind the website that has supported our community for so long.

A legacy of care and consistency

The BTA website was first created in the late 1990s. Steve Miller assumed leadership of the site at the end of that decade and gave it a new look. Mary joined him in late 2004 and has been maintaining the site ever since. In 2014, designer Darlene Karoly created the layout and visual style our site’s last generation used, which Darlene and Steve implemented. Mary continued to serve as the primary caretaker of the website after that design launched.

Mary’s consistency, responsiveness, and deep knowledge have been invaluable to the Buckeye Trail Association and the many people who rely on the website daily.
