Mark Anstaett recently reached an incredible milestone—surpassing 1,000 volunteer hours logged with the Buckeye Trail Association. This achievement reflects not only his dedication, but the steady, behind-the-scenes commitment he brings to the trail year after year.

With a master’s degree in geography from The Ohio State University and a career retired from service with the State of Ohio, Mark now puts his expertise to outstanding use as the GIS Coordinator for BTA’s Map Team. He works diligently to update field data and produce accurate paper and digital maps that hikers rely on to navigate and enjoy the Buckeye Trail.

Mark’s impact doesn’t stop at mapping. A member of the Little Cities of the Forest Chapter, he serves as a Trail Adopter maintaining 10 miles in the New Straitsville Section. He became a certified USFS sawyer to help clear downed trees from the trail corridor and has trained through Blue Blaze Academy. You’ll often find him at Trail Tuesday work days and chapter work parties, working tirelessly to build and maintain the Buckeye Trail.

An avid outdoor enthusiast, Mark enjoys hiking the Buckeye Trail and the North Country Trail, as well as running, birding/photography, and then cross-country skiing in the winter. He is always willing to lend a hand at events and lead hikes, and his quiet dedication and consistently excellent work are truly inspiring.

Thank you, Mark, for your expertise, hard work, and unwavering commitment to the Buckeye Trail!
