Volunteer Spotlight: Kat Wollyung
August, 2026.
For the past eight years, Kat Wollyung has been a dedicated member of the Buckeye Trail Association, and her impact continues to grow. As a trail adopter in the Crooked River Chapter, Kat is known for her enthusiasm, reliability, and willingness to step in whenever help is needed. With well over 500 volunteer hours logged, she has become an invaluable part of the Buckeye Trail community.
Kat’s commitment extends far beyond maintaining her adopted trail. She is a regular participant at work parties and is always eager to learn new skills that help improve the trail experience for others. Her passion for sustainable trail management and construction led her to attend both the introductory and advanced courses at Blue Blaze Academy, where she expanded her knowledge of trail design, maintenance, and stewardship.
One of Kat’s greatest strengths is her willingness to go above and beyond. When the Buckeye Trail Association undertook renovations at its headquarters, Kat traveled from Northeast Ohio to Southeast Ohio to lend a hand. She not only contributed her time and effort but also shared her expertise and knowledge with fellow volunteers, helping ensure the project was a success.
Kat’s contributions aren’t limited to trail work. She has taken on kiosk maintenance, helped design flyers and outreach materials, and played an important role in supporting the Little Loop Challenge, including helping create maps that guide hikers through the program. Whatever the need, Kat consistently steps forward with a positive attitude and a desire to help.
When she’s not volunteering, Kat enjoys hiking and spending time outdoors observing wildlife. Her curiosity, love of learning, and dedication to conservation are reflected in everything she does for the Buckeye Trail Association.
Thank you, Kat, for your energy, initiative, and countless contributions to the Buckeye Trail. Your willingness to jump in, learn new skills, and help wherever needed makes a lasting difference for the trail and the community that cares for it.
