Ohio Trails Partnership plans next phase of legislative advocacy for Ohio Trails Vision
The Ohio Trails Partnership, with the Buckeye Trail Association as a founding partner, met to plan the next phase of its legislative advocacy for the 2019 Ohio Trails Vision.
Continuing advocacy for Ohio’s trail network
The Ohio Trails Partnership (OTP) met in regular session yesterday to plan for the next phase of its advocacy efforts to implement the 2019 Ohio Trails Vision—a comprehensive plan for Ohio’s recreational trail system that was first unveiled at Buckeye TrailFest 2019.
The OTP’s current request of Ohio General Assembly members is to provide state funding to jumpstart implementation of this multi-year plan, which aims to improve trail connectivity, access, and long-term maintenance across the state.
Coordinated outreach and funding proposals
Leadership from the Buckeye Trail Association has been working closely with OTP partners during visits to Columbus, advocating for the inclusion of trail funding through the One Time Strategic Community Investments Fund.
This funding would help implement key recommendations from the 2019 plan, including:
-
Conducting an economic impact study to measure the statewide benefits of non-motorized trails.
-
Providing local match funding and technical assistance for disadvantaged rural and urban communities developing new trails.
-
Establishing a grant program to support ongoing trail maintenance across Ohio.
