Making history for the Buckeye Trail
The Buckeye Trail Association testified before the Ohio Senate in support of H.C.R. 13, urging Congress to designate the Buckeye Trail a National Scenic Trail.
On Tuesday, October 7, BTA Board President Maureen Gatewood, great-granddaughter of Grandma Gatewood, and Andrew Bashaw, Executive Director of the Buckeye Trail Association, testified before the Ohio Senate Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee in support of H.C.R. 13—a resolution urging Congress to designate the Buckeye Trail as a National Scenic Trail.
BTA Trustee Jill Moorhead also submitted written testimony highlighting how the Trail connects Ohio’s history, small towns, and natural beauty, an extraordinary asset that deserves national recognition.
The hearing marks an important step toward National Scenic Trail status. If adopted by the General Assembly, H.C.R. 13, sponsored by Representative Ron Hoops (R–District 81, Napoleon) and Representative Bobbie Robinson (D–District 18, Solon), will formally urge Congress and federal agencies to advance the designation process.
