Buckeye Trail Association National Scenic Trail Feasibility Study in place

The Buckeye Trail Association (BTA) is striving to achieve National Scenic Trail (NST) designation for the Buckeye Trail. If successful, the trail will gain significant resources that will benefit not only the Buckeye Trail but also communities and outdoor enthusiasts across Ohio.

Why National Scenic Trail status matters

If designated, the Buckeye Trail would receive:

  • Access to National Park Service infrastructure and support, including signage, mapping, and wayfinding tools.

  • Increased recognition and visibility nationwide, elevating the trail’s prestige and importance.

  • Promotion through federal channels to boost tourism and awareness.

  • Expanded fundraising opportunities and greater engagement from local communities, organizations, and outdoor enthusiasts.

  • A federally funded and staffed office dedicated to supporting local initiatives along the Buckeye Trail.
