Campsite & shelter development update
This update in the Spring 2017 issue of The Trailblazer highlights new Buckeye Trail campsites developed in partnership with local governments in Loveland and Defiance. The story reflects the BTA’s ongoing efforts to improve backpacking access and amenities through collaboration and the Trail Preservation Fund.
Places to camp in Loveland and Defiance
More accomplishments in Buckeye Trail campsite development have occurred since the last issue of the Trailblazer. With the help of volunteers and two cities along the trail, we now have two more new campsite locations. Both are located on the western side of the state, one in the northwest and one in the southwest. Here are some more details:
Southwest Ohio: new campsite in Loveland, Ohio
On the southwest side of the state, with the help of BTA volunteers John Rethman and Chris McIntyre, the City of Loveland is providing a campsite on city land along the Little Miami Scenic Trail. The site is between the Little Miami River and the bike path north of downtown. The City asks to be contacted at least 24 hours in advance before set up of your tent. Contact information for camping will be posted to the map update section for the Loveland Section in the near future.
Northwest Ohio: new campsite in Defiance, Ohio
On the northwest side of the state, BTA volunteer Mike Saxton has worked with city officials in Defiance to set up a campsite location at the Defiance City upground reservoir to the south of town. The City also asks to be contacted at least 24 hours in advance before set up of your tent. Contact information for camping will be posted to the map update section for the Defiance Section in the near future.
These additional camping sites will make backpacking the trail easier for all. Please remember to respect the rules and regulations with each site.
