Advocacy for Ohio’s trail future

On Tuesday, October 31, members of the Ohio Trails Partnership (OTP)—of which the Buckeye Trail Association (BTA) is a founding partner—met with legislators to discuss the OTP’s proposal for implementing the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ 2019 Ohio Trails Vision.

OTP partners met with State Senator Steve Wilson (R-7), Co-Chair of the Ohio Legislative Trails Caucus, and State Representative Bride Rose Sweeney (D-16) to present the proposal. Funding for the initiative is suggested to come from the One Time Strategic Community Investment Fund, created through a surplus from the State of Ohio’s General Revenue Fund.

Supporting equitable access and sustainable trails

The OTP proposal aims to:

  • Provide technical assistance and local match funding for trail projects in underserved and disadvantaged rural and urban areas.

  • Support ongoing trail maintenance across Ohio.

  • Undertake an Economic Impact Study to assess the financial benefits trails bring to the state.

These efforts build on years of collaboration among Ohio’s trail organizations and reflect a shared vision to expand access, safety, and sustainability across Ohio’s trail network.
