Announcing new Troy Section Supervisor

The Troy Section of the Buckeye Trail spans 52 miles of fully off-road hiking along rivers, canal towpaths, and historic sites in southwest Ohio. From Pearl’s Fen with its high density of rare plants and animals, through Oakes Quarry which was a coral reef in a shallow sea 400 million years ago where today you might find Silurian Age crinoid fossils, past Wright Brothers’ Huffman Prairie Flying Fields, and continuing on through several MetroParks along the Great Miami River, passing the area of Tadmor (a ghost town), and ending in Piqua, this section showcases Ohio’s transportation history, aviation heritage, and vibrant river towns.

Bringing in Kevin Custer as Section Supervisor for the Troy Section ensures strong leadership in a key section of the Buckeye Trail.

Kevin Custer enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, camping in state parks, canoeing, fishing, hunting, brewing beer, and walking his dog, Moose. Professionally, Kevin has earned a Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences – Aquatic Ecotoxicology at Wright State University. He now works as an Environmental Toxicologist at EnviroScience. With a strong focus on aquatic environments, Kevin has worked in the environmental field since 1999 and specializes in aquatic and sediment ecotoxicology, stream ecology, and environmental compliance.
