A new digital home for the Buckeye Trail
A new era for the Buckeye Trail: explore our rebuilt website, created by volunteers statewide and designed to support hikers, partners, and trail towns.
buckeyetrail.org has a new look
After years of planning, countless volunteer hours, and an unmistakable spirit of community, the Buckeye Trail Association is proud to launch our brand-new website—built to serve hikers, volunteers, partners, and trail towns for years to come.
This site represents one of the most ambitious digital projects in BTA history. With 496 pages (and counting!), it is both a comprehensive resource and a living, growing reflection of our trail and the people who care for it.
Built by a statewide community
The website you see today is the result of a remarkable, multi-year, all-hands effort:
- 27 content reviewers and contributors
- 16 people providing development, technical, legal, and organizational leadership
- 47 photography contributors whose images bring the trail to life
- 8 spreadsheets that kept the entire project organized
And truly incredible support from Section Supervisors and Chapter Chairs, whose on-the-ground knowledge and careful reviews shaped every detail
The idea for rebuilding the site originated with volunteer leaders who envisioned a modern, user-friendly platform that matched the beauty and complexity of the Buckeye Trail.
In 2025, a small Strike Team—Mary Hayes, Elyria Little, Jill Moorhead, and Aidan Reagh—worked closely with developer Nigel Ewan to turn that vision into reality. Together, they collaborated with volunteers across the state to redesign content structures, rewrite hundreds of pages, improve navigation, and ensure the site will remain flexible and sustainable well into the future.
Supported by our partners
This project was made possible through generous grant support from TourismOhio. We are especially grateful to Sarah Wickham for her belief in the project and the Buckeye Trail community.
A website shaped by many hands
Every page carries the imprint of our community: ideas from partners, edits from volunteers, local details from Chapter Chairs, historical notes from Section Supervisors, and photographs from people who love the trail. This is truly a website built by Ohio.
