Chapter background

The Little Cities of the Forest Chapter covers a rugged, forested region rich in Appalachian history and natural beauty. Once defined by its coal mining, brick factory, and labor organization legacy, this area is now a haven for outdoor recreation and ecological restoration. Volunteers play an important role in maintaining the trail and sharing its cultural and environmental significance.

Trail preservation projects

The AMLER grant project, a 75–100 mile backpacking destination trail that is mostly concurrent to the Buckeye Trail. This project will move 15 miles of trail into the forest and off roads.
