I've been toying with the idea of doing part of the River to River Trail in southern Illinois.  Has anyone hiked/backpacked this trail?  I have a pretty good guide to the trail with trail description and water/camping locations.  I think the better half wants to visit some gardens in Missouri, so I think I can get her to drop me off and pack me up (hopefully  Grin) on the way back.  The trail goes through what appears to be some beautiful locations (like Garden of the Gods), but it is shared with horses in many places, which is a huge downer.

I was thinking about a three day backpacking trip that would go through Garden of the Gods.

This looks really cool too.  I'm in!  Let me know what I can do to help.

I do not think it will be a hard trip, but could offer some different scenery.  Water and shared trails with horses seem to be the biggest concerns.  I'll keep you posted.
