Cabin Fever 5K Hikes for 2013

It is time to make good on those New Years’ resolutions to take care of your health. Join us for the Cabin Fever 5K Hikes along the Miami and Erie Canal Towpath Trail (BT) in Auglaize County, OH.  Each hike is out and back, 3.1 miles total.  Starting and ending at the registration point where hikers can warm up, refresh with water and yogurt, and use the restroom. Register between 1-3pm and then take a hike at your own pace. This series of hikes is free, easy for the whole family. Each hike is held on the second Sunday of the month in a different location along the Towpath Trail.

January 13- Lockkeepers Winter Canal Hike, register at the Lockkeepers House in New Bremen at the corner of State Routes 66 and 274. Sponsored by the Miami and Erie Canal Corridor Association- www.mecca.org, 419.733.6451

February 10- United Way Hike for Health, register at the City of St. Marys Utility Building. Sponsored by the United Way of Auglaize County- www.augliazeunitedway.org

 

March 10- Canawlers Hike, register at Noble Township Hall, Brewer Road north of St. Marys. Sponsored by the Heritage Trails Park District, www.htparks.org, 419.202.6053

 

April 14- April Showers Hike, register at Noble Township Hall, Brewer Road north of St. Marys. Sponsored by the Heritage Trails Park District, www.htparks.org, 419.202.6053

 

Along with the sponsors listed above, hikers can earn points for the Road to Fitness sponsored by Grand Lake Health System. Learn more at www.grandlakehealth.org.

A couple of other options for the hike Sunday afternoon, January 13, 2013 at New Bremen, OH has been posted by the event organizer.

Besides the initial offering of starting and ending in New Bremen, you now have the option of starting in Minster (St. Marys Section point 19) and going to New Bremen and back to Minster on the Towpath Trail (BT/NCT) for a 4.0 mile hike
OR
starting at Kuenning – Dicke Park (Lock Two) (St. Marys Section point 21) and taking the Towpath Trail (BT/NCT) to New Bremen and returning to Kuenning – Dicke Park for a 2.6 mile hike.
The Lockkeepers House in New Bremen will be open for hot refreshments and restrooms between 1 – 3 pm

unofficial reports state that nearly 125 hikers took part in this hike.
