There is a new shelter under construction at New Bremen.

some additional information.

the shelter still under construction will be in the Kuenning - Dicke Natural Area, (New Bremen Foundation) a 67 acre park with a 3 acre 25 foot deep fishing lake (catch & release). There is a primitive campsite on the eastern edge of the park which is about a hundred feet away for the BT, MEST & NCT.
The guidelines as written in 2010 were Camping limited to two consecutive nights; five nights annually.

the Kuenning - Dicke Natural Area is located in the St. Marys section between points 20 & 21, just a few hundred feet south of point 21 (Lock Two).

checked on this today.
noticed that it is still under construction and that it had received a little storm damage. most of the roofing material (tar paper) was blown off, some of it was located over one hundred feet away along the MEST:BT:NCT.
also noticed that it will be more than a three walled shelter. it will almost be complete enclosure as it appears that the there might be two doorways into it from the one side.

We need more of these shelters on the BT.  No sense having a legitimate long distance trail that doesn't provide camping access.  This is certainly good news and hopefully the start of many to come.
